Your summertime schedule is not for the faint of heart, yeah? We're talking travel and road trips, parties and pools, dressed-up events, and laid-back backyard moments where you don't even need shoes. Yeah, there's a lot going on.

There's no denying that a brand-new seasonal wardrobe will make all the upcoming events that much more exciting to think about, but there's also that annoying little thing called a budget. A jam-packed schedule usually involves travel and meals out, which contribute to some amazing memories but also eat into that closet-update slush fund. That could be a major bummer that threatens to kill your summer-livin' vibe—but it definitely doesn't have to be, especially when you know one of our favorite shopping secrets. Ready for it? Lean in real close, because it's just a single word…

Walmart.

Srsly, don't sleep on the retailer when it comes to your closet. Its style section has gotten soooo good recently—you can find every single thing on your summer-wardrobe wish list in one affordable place.

For travel days

The vacay fashion story starts the minute you leave your front door. Whether you're going by plane or car (or train or boat), the criteria for a good in-transit look are pretty much the same: comfy but not sloppy, and something that will look just as fly when you arrive at your destination hours later.

Sweats might feel kinda obvious, but it's about the details. Try a wide-leg silhouette with cargo pockets, and pair it with a boxy tee or a slouchy button-down. (Expert-level trick: Wear both, and tie the latter around your waist until you want the extra layer.)

Grab a tote bag that can do double duty as a carry-on and for going out and about at your destination. Finish with sneakers that look stylish but will also work if you have to dash for your connecting flight (oops).

For pool parties

If there's a pool, it's going to be a good time, basically. Dress for a day out in the sun with a layered outfit that's ready for anything. Obviously, start with the swimsuit. Crinkle fabric is super flattering and feels so. So. Soft.

A printed cotton dress is an easy coverup alternative since you can pull it on over your swimsuit. Plus, if you spend hours by the grill, gossiping, or otherwise not actually getting in the pool, you'll look put-together. Another pool-day outfit hack we love is pulling a skirt directly over your suit. It totally works if you need to pop into the grocery store before the party to stock up on supplies.

Shoe-wise, just skip anything that could potentially get messed up by splashes (should someone decide to cannonball a bit too close for comfort).

For the bachelorette (or any girls' trip, really)

Whether the party is kicking off in Vegas or Charleston or Jamaica or, like, literally anywhere else on the planet, the dress code is more or less going to be the same: FUN. A bachelorette is pretty much about celebrating from the first mimosa of the morning until your head hits the pillow, so pack stuff that's playful and festive.

Floral-print dresses feel right for just about any occasion (and are easy to dress up or down), while a knit mini sizzles at a dive bar or the bougiest of lounges.

Heading somewhere near a body of water? Don't forget a swimsuit that screams more than whispers because, hey, this isn't the time to be subtle.

For urban exploring

Spending a few days in a big city this summer? While every metropolis has its own vibe, exploring any concrete jungle has a few similarities. Let's break it down, shall we? You'll be walking, queueing, eating and drinking, and just generally spending a lot more time doing than couch-sitting.

Wardrobe-wise, that all calls for stuff that's suited for being out from sunrise to way, way later. We're not talking gym-ready athleisure, either. Midi dresses look at home at the museum or the hottest cocktail spot (and you'll look so cute in pics).

When it comes to accessories, chunky sandals are this season's MVP. They look cool and, honestly, feel just as comfortable for a day spent pounding the sidewalks (or cobblestones, depending where you've gotten your passport stamped). Plan on bringing a mid-size bag that's big enough for daily essentials, but not so big that you'll overstuff it and then have an aching back.
